Terms of Use
Last updated: July 2026
1. About TaxEase UK
TaxEase UK (“the Application”) is a product of TAXEASEUK LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (Company Number: 17244428). TaxEase UK is an independent software tool designed to help individuals understand, prepare, and submit their UK Self Assessment tax return. TaxEase UK is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) or any UK Government department.
These Terms of Use govern your use of the TaxEase UK application, website (taxeaseuk.com), and all associated services. By using TaxEase UK, you agree to these Terms.
2. Educational purpose only
TaxEase UK provides guidance and calculations for informational and educational purposes only. It does not constitute professional tax advice, legal advice, or accountancy services. You should always verify your figures on HMRC’s official Self Assessment portal at gov.uk before filing.
If you have a complex tax situation (multiple income sources, foreign income, capital gains, residency questions), we strongly recommend consulting a qualified accountant or tax adviser.
3. Accuracy of information
We make every effort to ensure that tax rates, thresholds, and HMRC rules reflected in TaxEase UK are accurate and up to date for the relevant tax year. However, tax legislation changes frequently. TaxEase UK does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currency of any information provided.
The user is solely responsible for verifying all figures and for any errors or omissions in their Self Assessment return.
4. Hardware and software compatibility
The desktop application versions of TaxEase UK (.exe for Windows, .dmg for Mac) are provided “as is”. TaxEase UK does not guarantee that the application will function on every computer or operating system configuration.
Minimum requirements:
- Windows: Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, 4 GB RAM, 200 MB free disk space
- Mac: macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later, Intel or Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5)
TaxEase UK accepts no liability for any damage, data loss, or system issues arising from the installation or use of the desktop application on any device.
If your device does not meet the requirements, use the browser-based HTML version instead.
5. Data and privacy
The free HTML version and the desktop application store all user data locally on your device (browser localStorage or application storage). No personal or financial data is transmitted to TaxEase UK servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
6. Licence and permitted use
The free HTML version may be downloaded and used by any individual for personal tax return preparation. It may not be redistributed, sold, or embedded in other products without written permission.
Premium licences are issued to named individuals and cover up to 2 personal devices. B2B licences cover the number of client seats specified in the purchase. Sharing, reselling, or transferring a licence key to third parties is not permitted.
7. HMRC API integration & OAuth authorisation
TaxEase UK integrates with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) APIs under the HMRC Making Tax Digital (MTD) programme to allow you to submit your Self Assessment return directly to HMRC. By using the HMRC integration feature, you agree to the following:
- OAuth authorisation: You authorise TaxEase UK to act on your behalf when communicating with HMRC APIs. This authorisation is granted via HMRC’s official OAuth 2.0 flow. TaxEase UK will never ask for or store your HMRC Government Gateway username or password.
- Scope of authorisation: You authorise TaxEase UK only to perform the actions you explicitly initiate — such as submitting your Self Assessment return or retrieving submission status. TaxEase UK will not access or modify your HMRC records beyond what is needed for these specific actions.
- Revocation: You may revoke TaxEase UK’s access to your HMRC account at any time via your HMRC online account settings. Revocation does not affect any submissions already made.
- Fraud prevention headers: HMRC requires that certain device and connection data (IP address, browser fingerprint, etc.) be transmitted with each API request as part of their mandatory fraud prevention programme. By using the HMRC integration, you consent to this data being sent to HMRC alongside your submission.
- Responsibility for accuracy: You remain solely responsible for the accuracy of all data submitted to HMRC through TaxEase UK. TaxEase UK is a submission tool, not an auditor. HMRC may raise enquiries or penalties based on information you provide; TaxEase UK accepts no liability for such outcomes.
- HMRC terms: Use of HMRC APIs is also subject to HMRC’s own Terms and Conditions.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, TAXEASEUK LTD and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from:
- Errors or inaccuracies in the application’s calculations or guidance
- Penalties, interest, or enquiries raised by HMRC as a result of information entered by the user
- Failure or delay of HMRC API services, Government Gateway, or third-party systems
- Rejection or querying of a submission by HMRC after it has been transmitted
- Failure of the application to function on a particular device or operating system
- Loss of data stored in the application
Our maximum liability to you for any claim arising from your use of TaxEase UK shall not exceed the amount you paid for your licence in the 12 months preceding the claim.
9. Governing law
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The current version is always available at taxeaseuk.com/terms. Continued use of the application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Registered account holders will be notified of material changes by email.
11. Verified Accountants Directory
TaxEase UK operates a public Verified Accountants Directory listing approved B2B accountant partners. Inclusion in the directory is entirely voluntary and subject to explicit opt-in consent given during registration.
By ticking the “List me in the TaxEase UK Verified Accountants Directory” checkbox at registration, you consent to the following information being displayed publicly on taxeaseuk.com: your firm name, contact name, professional body, languages spoken, specialisms, region, and a direct enquiry link.
You may withdraw your consent and request removal from the directory at any time by contacting us at hello@taxeaseuk.com. Removal will be processed within 5 business days.
TaxEase UK reserves the right to remove any listing that is found to contain inaccurate information or that violates these Terms of Service.
12. B2B Accountant Partners — Commissions
Approved B2B accountant partners may earn a commission of 10% of the net licence fee for each client they invite who purchases a Premium licence. Commissions are paid via Stripe Connect and are subject to Stripe’s terms of service. TaxEase UK reserves the right to modify commission rates with 30 days’ notice.
13. Platform Disclaimer — Accountant Directory
TaxEase UK operates as a directory platform connecting users with accountants who specialise in UK Self Assessment. TaxEase UK is not a regulatory body, professional accountancy firm, or authorised financial institution.
We do not independently verify the professional qualifications, regulatory status, or suitability of accountants listed in our directory, except where explicitly marked with the “✓ TaxEase UK Verified” badge.
The ✓ TaxEase UK Verified badge indicates that TaxEase UK has manually cross-referenced the accountant’s stated membership number against the public register of the relevant professional body (ICAEW, ACCA, AAT, CIOT, or CIMA) at the time of verification. This does not constitute an ongoing audit of the accountant’s qualifications or conduct.
Users are strongly encouraged to conduct their own due diligence before engaging any accountant, including verifying their qualifications and standing directly with the relevant professional body.
TaxEase UK accepts no liability for the quality, accuracy, or outcome of services provided by any accountant listed in the directory, whether or not they carry the TaxEase UK Verified badge.
15. Security, Incident Reporting & Data Breach Notification
We take the security of our platform and our users’ data seriously. If you discover a security vulnerability or suspect a security incident, please report it immediately to hello@taxeaseuk.com with the subject line “Security Report”. We will acknowledge receipt within 24 hours and aim to resolve confirmed vulnerabilities within 30 days.
In the event of a personal data breach involving customer or HMRC-related data, TAXEASEUK LTD will:
- Notify the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, as required under UK GDPR Article 33.
- Notify HMRC by logging a ticket within 72 hours, providing a breach contact name and telephone number.
- Notify affected individuals without undue delay where the breach is likely to result in a high risk to their rights and freedoms.
We maintain documented security policies and review access controls regularly. All employee access to customer data is governed by a Role Based Access Control (RBAC) policy.
16. HMRC Compliance Declarations
In connection with our use of HMRC APIs under the HMRC Making Tax Digital (MTD) programme, TAXEASEUK LTD makes the following declarations:
- Fraud Prevention Headers: TaxEase UK submits fraud prevention header data with every HMRC API request in accordance with the HMRC Fraud Prevention specification. We have verified our header submissions using the HMRC Test Fraud Prevention Headers API prior to applying for production credentials.
- Accessibility: The web-based version of TaxEase UK is developed to meet Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, in compliance with HMRC’s software accessibility requirements.
- HMRC Logos & Branding: TaxEase UK does not use HMRC logos, crests, or official government branding in its software, website, or marketing materials. TaxEase UK is described only as software that integrates with HMRC APIs — it is not presented as “HMRC recognised”, “HMRC approved”, or “HMRC accredited”.
- Advertising: TaxEase UK does not display third-party advertising in its software. Any marketing TaxEase UK produces about its own software complies with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) Codes and applicable UK marketing law.
- Development Practices: TaxEase UK follows the HMRC development practices, including error handling per the HMRC error specification.
- UK GDPR: TaxEase UK complies with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Customer data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Access tokens and personally identifiable information are never stored in plain text. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
- Data Portability: Customers may export, change, or delete their data at any time. For account data, contact hello@taxeaseuk.com. Tax calculation data stored locally on your device can be cleared at any time through your browser or the application settings.
